This week’s video looks at using a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skill called ABC PLEASE. DBT introduces great skills for Emotional Regulation, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance. While used most often with BPD (borderline personality), ED (eating disorders), and SA (substance abuse), its use is wide and varied. It works for everyday upsets and stress, and incorporates the best of mindfulness, CBT and trauma training. Completing DBT skills training for me was the bomb! It gives me so much resource for my clients and my OWN life! Plus, I love that DBT uses catchy acronyms to remember the skills, which sure comes in handy when you need to pull one out in an upset. Check out the ABC PLEASE skill, and you’ll see what I mean!
